Many of you may not be buried in clutter. (If you already know you are, check out this post with tips just for you!) Maybe you aren't too bad. Perhaps you have some piles here and some boxes with who knows what over there. But you are not sure if you really need to get serious about decluttering or not. The list below should help you figure that out.
I recommend taking tally on a sticky note as you read through this list. Mark a tally for each one that makes you go, "Oh yeah, that's me alright!" When you get to the end, if you have more than 4 marks, you know you are ready to declutter your home.
Now, let's go!
You know you are ready to start decluttering your home if you...
frequently feel and/or say, "I just need to get out here!"
struggle to find things.
have a room in your house that is "off limits" to your kids, spouse, and/or guests due to clutter.
haven't had space for a car (or your hobby) in your garage for eons.
have more than one mail catch-all surface.
feel that cooking is an inconvenience.
realize cleaning is rarely getting done.
have completely given up on dusting.
feel overwhelmed every time you walk in the front door.
see a closet full of clothes but there is "nothing to wear."
have given up on your hobbies because you have no time or space to do them.
seem to be late to everything.
notice it smells funny (or just straight up awful) all the time.
only want to numb out on screens when you're at home.
don't know where anything is supposed to go (and neither does anyone else).
notice that the bathroom counters, shelves, and tables are covered in stuff.
get mad because no one else wants to clean up their stuff.
often find trash on the floor.
hate being at home.
just want to feel more at peace.
