Is Bullet Journaling Right for You?

I just started a new bullet journal this week. It is so rewarding to set up a bullet journal. I feel so put together and organized after doing it. I feel like I have my brain back.

For those of you who don't know what the heck I'm talking about, here's my quick definition: Bullet journaling is a productivity system where you write out your tasks and notes in a blank journal (often doted rather than lined) and use it as a super customizable planner/brain dump. If you want to know more, go here and/or watch bullet journal videos like this one on YouTube.

So, now that you get the basic idea, here are some characteristics of people that I think could benefit from bullet journaling (I relate with 1, 2, & 5):

  1. You have to write things down. Whether you learn by writing things out, can't type fast, or hate technology, bullet journaling is great for people who need to write their thoughts and tasks on paper. It helps many people recall information better or simply stay on top of their schedules and to-do's.

  2. You find paper planners too constrictive. If you have tried paper planners before, but found that they didn't work for you, perhaps it is because you need something more free form; either because you need more space or you need to change how you plan based on your day. Bullet journals are just blank notebooks, so they are 100% customizable and you don't have to do anything you don't want to.

  3. You find paper planners too complicated. Or maybe you are on the other side of the spectrum. If you have found planners to have too many boxes and trackers and things to fill in, a bullet journal may be perfect for you. You can simplify it down to just writing a to-do list each day, or whatever simple format you need to organize your brain.

  4. You are a little ADHD. I am no psychologist, but I have heard many people say bullet journaling is good for people who struggle to remember important tasks or prioritize well. Writing down your schedule and to-do's may help you do better; especially if your mind tends to run you off the rails.

  5. You love to write, doodle, & customize. This is probably why I love bullet journaling so much. I can simplify things down when I am busy, but I can also spend 8 hours (like I did this weekend) writing out all my goals, drawing, coloring, and writing fancy titles in my journal. The creativity and customizability make me so happy.

So there's my list.

Comment below which characteristics you relate to & if you bullet journal or think you want to start.
